Undergraduate Science/Engineering Research Intern

What You Will Do

P-2 Applied and Fundamental physics group is seeking undergraduate students to join the ADReSS team.The Student will be a member of the ADReSS collaboration, a project founded to support the TA-55 Waste characterization and shipping program. In this project, we are looking for creative solutions to difficult and unique problems that revolve around nuclear waste. The student will work independently when applicable but with daily input and supervision from the mentor. Initially meeting to convey the will need to fully understand the goals of the project and have a clear understanding of expectations, culture, and deadlines in the group and team.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The following skills are required for the job:

Programming experience: such as C++, python, Matlab, basic office software knowledge (Word, Excel, E-mail).

Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Latex, E-mail.

Design Experience: with programs like SolidWorks (preferred) AutoCad.

Communication: excellent communication skills, brainstorming and writing skills are essential, as is working effectively as part of a team.

Desire to Learn: The desire to continually learn new things, as well as being open to working on a variety of topics

Creativity: The ability to think outside the box is crucial for the success of the program.

Education/Experience: Position requires enrollment in an undergraduate program for science or engineering with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:

Manufacturing experience: Machining experience such as lathe and mill operations, welding and soldering.

Teaching ability: Ability to teach other students.

Project involvement: Having been involve in a hands-on project in the past.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
