What You Will Do
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Accounts Receivable team responsible for activities associated with receivables for Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP), Other Federal Agencies (OFA), Integrated Contractors (IC), Non-Federal Entities (NFE), Inter-governmental Personnel Agreements (IPA), Royalties and Licenses, Corporate and Employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Billing, collections, reconciliations, internal reporting and Department of Energy (DOE)/ National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) reporting.
Development and maintenance of accounting controls systems, analysis and interpretation of trends requiring management’s attention, the preparation of financial and management reports and procedures, and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management.
Perform research on accounting and business issues and provide informed opinions and alternatives, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and take action to implement solutions.
Provide a high level of support in the areas of business analysis and business strategy
Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, preparing performance assessments, reviewing the work of the accountants on the team, and developing staff
Serve as an advisor regarding the coordination and oversight of accounting requirements.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience at the supervisory level in managing complex organizations with diverse operations showing a record of effective teamwork and leadership on projects.
Extensive knowledge of accounting concepts and principles to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and internal controls.
Extensive knowledge of complex accounting and financial analysis; developing, interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures.
Broad understanding of all accounting and finance functions (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Budgeting, Tax).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to resolve, persuade, motivate, negotiate, influence, and build consensus among others with tact and diplomacy in order to successfully implement changes and acceptance of new ideas or concepts.
Well-developed organizational skills to independently establish priorities and to execute business and financial assignments
Experience and demonstrated success in a production accounting function and relevant experience with a complex accounting system (ERP).
Working knowledge of Laboratory business systems and NNSA/DOE & LANL financial policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work with technical staff in diagnosing and resolving system related issues.
Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business related fieldand typically eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Where You Will Work
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The General Ledger (GL) Team has overall responsibility for capturing, recording, and reporting the financial condition of the Laboratory. Cost transactions and balance sheet activity are funneled through this team for editing and posting to the Oracle General Ledger and Oracle Project Accounting modules. Subsequent to closing the general ledger each month, the team reports the financial activity to DOE at Headquarters via the Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS) transmission and later provides the financial statement analysis to DOE in Albuquerque.
