Los Alamos National Laboratory Condensed Matter Experiment Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an opportunity for three postdocs available in experimental condensed matter physics research. The focus of these positions is, broadly, the study of topology and strong electron correlations in oxides, heavy Fermions, and actinides, under high-pressure and/or high-magnetic fields. The position also provides opportunities for adventurous and highly motivated applicants to develop complementary methods and pursue new research directions relevant to condensed matter physics in extreme experimental environments. The Pulsed-Field Facility at the MPA-MAG/NHMFL hosts a range of unique magnet systems including the 60T long-pulse and 100T multi-shot magnets.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must have an experimental background and an exceptionally strong publication record in one or more of the following areas: (1) experimental condensed matter physics in high strong magnetic fields, (2) experimental condensed matter physics at high pressures, or (3) one of the areas of interest identified above (i.e.topology and strong electron correlations in oxides, heavy Fermions, and actinides). Demonstrated ability to conduct high precision measurements and data acquisition are essential. The candidate must also have strong written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by publications, presentations, cover letter, and references. All of the above must be addressed in the application (cover letter and CV) if it is to be considered.
Desired Skills: LabVIEW, MatLab or Mathematica programming experience are useful for data acquisition and processing. The growth, preparation and characterization of materials, when necessary.
Education: PhD in related field completed within that past five years of soon to be completed.
Notes to Applicants: Please contact Dr N. Harrison (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Dr. M. Chan (email@example.com) for further details.
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Marie Curie, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.
