What You Will Do

As a member of Personnel Security and reporting to the Access Control Team Leader, you will serve a vital function for the Laboratory’s Badge Office. The processing of requests for badges is a gatekeeper function for the Laboratory and is a critical security element for protection of our nation’s security assets. Personnel Security is comprised of the Badge Office, FOCI, Clearance Processing, HRP, Classified Visits and Drug/Alcohol Testing Program.

You will be part of a multi-team effort to process large amounts of workers for HSPD-12 federal credentials and locally issued badges. You will work with multiple workers and visitors each day via telephone, chat, e-mail and in-person. You will validate requests, verify citizenship and review official documents to ensure only authorized individuals are granted access to the Laboratory. You will capture photos, encode magnetic stripes and create badges as part of your regular duties. You will be required to learn all applicable rules and regulations related to Access Control at the Laboratory and you will protect personal identifiable information. You will interact with new workers and visitors from around the world as they arrive in the Badge Office and experience Los Alamos National Laboratory for the first time.

Personnel Security is one of the busiest groups at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Your attention to detail and ability to work well with other individuals, groups and independently will be a major part of obtaining success in this position.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in an office responsible for granting access.

  • Proficiency working with personal computers to include experience working with Microsoft Suite and networked applications.

  • Demonstrated experience working with high volumes of customers as both part of a team and independently.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills including experience interacting successfully with all levels of employees and management, external customers, and other government agencies, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in protecting sensitive and private information.

  • Demonstrated accuracy in work that requires strong attention to detail and where high levels of accuracy are mandatory.

  • Demonstrated experience in solving problems quickly and efficiently.

Desired Skills:

  • Active DOE Q Clearance.

  • Previous experience using call-center technology and incoming ticketing systems.

  • Experience with a relational database to include creating queries and reports.

  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safeguards policies, practices and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's computer and information security policies, practices, and procedures

  • Knowledge and experience with DOE Order 470.4B Safeguards and Security Program.

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree or Business College Degree in information, records management, or security-related field and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of formal training and relevant work experience.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
