Security Specialist-4 ($104,100 - $172,200)
Associate Laboratory Directorate Defense Protection - Security Integration Office (ALDDP-INT) is seeking an exceptional and motivated individual to support Associate Laboratory Directorate Weapons Production (ALDWP), specifically Technical Area-55 with security policy and advice.
You will be part of a high performing team, instrumental in helping maintain the safety and security of the Laboratory's Category-1 nuclear facility, the most secure area within the laboratory.
Working in a fast-paced, high-visibility, and high-stakes environment, you will need to have a keen eye for detail, need to maintain a positive and professional customer-focused attitude, and ensure that all LANL and Federal security requirements are met while optimizing efficiency/success for the important work being accomplished in the interest of National Security.
More importantly, you must be able to demonstrate and promote self-responsibility and accountability for safety, security, quality, and environmental standards in all operations. The Deployed Security Professional (DSP) is an advisor and reports to the Security Integration Office, Security Program Leader (Security Manager-3).
The successful candidate will:
- Develop a complete understanding of security requirements and procedures
- Develop, implement, and evaluate activity security plans
- Work closely with their assigned organization to support mission success while ensuring adherence to all applicable security policies/procedures
- Work closely with the Security Incident Team to perform incident response and mitigation
- Conduct on-site security walk-downs and implement corrective actions when needed
- Brief organizations and management on the security posture within their organizations
- Create and deliver presentations/awareness pieces to provide information and instruction on a variety of security job-related functions
- Influence the safeguard and security culture at LANL enabling a successful mission in support of our Nation
- Contribute to presentation and awareness of security themes and topics
- Actively mentor new hires to help foster and promote professional development
- Establish security related priorities
- Develop networks within and outside the organization
- Lead small teams within the group on focused security related projects and activities
- Serve and function as an informal work leader with limited supervision required in the performance of daily tasks
- Conduct peer reviews within the group on security related awareness pieces
- Be willing to work swing-shift/backshift periods in support of important programmatic work
- Be willing to serve in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Security Program Leader/Team Leader, as required
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - classified matter protection and control, information security, physical security, computer security, and personnel security
- Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards
- Advanced experience and skill in the preparation and presentation of security and safeguards reports to internal organizations
- Advanced experience and demonstrated ability in writing, implementing procedures, policies, guides or other formal documents, demonstrating compliance with security requirements
- Advanced experience and demonstrated ability developing innovative methods for implementing program requirements, and conducting effective evaluations for compliance to established orders and directives
- Advanced experience interfacing with all levels of management, technical and non-technical personnel
- Advanced experience in leading small to medium sized teams, setting goals, delegating tasks, and supervising personnel
- Advanced knowledge and experience conducting causal analysis, writing corrective actions and evaluating effectiveness
- Advanced experience identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvements
- Advanced in-depth knowledge and high-level experience with security and safeguards functions such as inspections, identification of vulnerabilities, assessment of risks, and the development of mitigation strategies and controls to minimize risk
- Demonstrated intangible character traits of initiative, teamwork, independent judgment, professionalism and tact
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, or, Security related field, and 12 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and experience, working at a Category-1 nuclear or similar facility
- Advanced experience in sensitive facility security operations
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and experience with security assessments and risk management processes
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) security and safeguards policies, practices and procedures
- Documented formal causal analysis training
- Advanced understanding of the mission and organization of the Laboratory and ALDDP.
- Planning and policy experience.
- Active DOE Q-clearance
- Actively enrolled the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
