Nuclear Astrophysics Researcher
- Req. Number: IRC133685
- Organization : NUC & PARTICLE PHYS, ASTROPHYS & COSMOL/ T-2
- City, State: Los Alamos, New Mexico
The T-2 group (Nuclear and Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology) in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites applications for open postdoctoral positions in nuclear astrophysics to begin as early as Fall 2024. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, astrophysics, or a closely related field by the beginning of the postdoctoral appointment. Our group conducts research on a broad set of topics in theoretical nuclear physics and astrophysics with particular focus on atomic opacities, equation of state, multi-messenger signals e.g. from astrophysical transients (including kilonova), nuclear structure, nuclear reactions, fission, nuclear isomers, nucleosynthesis, and state of the art simulations. LANL scientists working in these areas include Kurtis Bartlett, Chris Fontes, Chris Fryer, Oleg Korobkin, Jonah Miller, Wendell Misch, Matthew Mumpower, Tony Shin, Karl Smith, Ingo Tews, and Ryan Wollaeger. We collaborate actively with our colleagues throughout the laboratory and have close ties with ongoing collaborations in astrophysics and experimental physics.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early career scientist to develop an independent research program in the exciting field of nuclear astrophysics. Candidates with expertise in any of the aforementioned areas are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates may be considered for a Director's Postdoctoral Fellowship or Distinguished (Feynman/Oppenheimer) Postdoctoral Fellowship. Exceptional candidates will be considered for early career staff.
