The EasyIT Services (ICE-EIT) team provides high-quality end-user support for hardware, software, and standardized software distribution. As a Computing Systems Tec within the Software Asset Management (SAM) team, you will be responsible for centralized third-party software packages. You'll work closely with Quality Control to ensure software reliability, functionality, and security. When needed, you'll collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot software issues and ensure any residual risks are reviewed and approved by ISSO/ISSM. Computing Systems Tec 5 (CST-5) ($76,00 - $122,200)
You will be part of a team of highly skilled IT personnel providing technical support services by maintaining institutionally approved software for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. You will be working closely with I&T and Platform Owners to identify and configure 3rd party software in the Laboratory computing environment.

  • Ability to create and maintain new secure software deployments for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Test 3rd party applications, modify installers, prepare system administrator/end-user documentation, and update content in the software web store in a multi-platform environment.
  • Work directly with software vendors to ensure that software installs and functions properly in the LANL environment.
  • Managing virtual and physical equipment, including servers and workstations.
  • Technical documentation and communications with non-experts.
  • Manage completeness and accuracy of software investments as compared to license agreements.
  • Working closely with SCCM, JAMF/Casper, QA/QC, partner organization, and service desk teams.
  • Ensure that residual risk due to software behavior is appropriately approved by the ISSO/ISSM.
  • Utilize the ServiceNow ticketing system to manage 3rd and 4th-tier support requests.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience administering one or more of these operating systems: Windows, macOS, Linux (*nix).
  • Demonstrated innovative problem-solving within a collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge in configuring, customizing, and implementing third-party software in an enterprise environment for example working in Adobe, AutoCAD, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills including meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must have organizational skills, time management skills and outstanding customer service.

Education/Experience:
Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency, and 6 years directly related experience; or; an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:

  • UNIX/Linux system administration experience
  • JAMF administration experience
  • SCCM administration experience
  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Windows and/or Mac Server Administration

Work Location: The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
