The Detonator Production Division is looking for a full-time, 100% onsite, Staff Operations Manager (SOM) to serve as valuable member on the DP-Division management team to provide high-level day to day business, programmatic and operational support for the entire division.

Reporting to the Division Leader, the Staff Operations Manager (SOM) will work in a collaborative and professional team environment and serve as a key advisor, taking on special projects to advance the business as independently determined or assigned. The successful candidate will provide direct day to day management over a fast-paced dynamic growing business operations team; currently five administrators and two computer systems support professionals. The SOM will be responsible for providing positive leadership and career development of each direct report. Additionally, indirectly provide guidance/partnership to deployed business partners (Training, Finance, HR, Technical Writers, Security, others as determined). The successful candidate will develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external strategic planning offices to accomplish mission deliverables.

The SOM will continually develop and maintain positive relationships with all levels of Laboratory staff and management. The successful candidate will have the authority to represent management on activities and committees and serve as a liaison in responding to internal and external institutional requests. They will lead efforts that enable the continuous development and improvement of business processes and other activities/initiatives through-out the division.

Management and Leadership:

Proven ability to positively manage and lead teams towards common goals and objectives. Providing positive leadership and guidance. Experience advising on personnel matters that range in level of complexity. Proven ability to lead by example and uphold high standards of integrity and conduct.

Organizational Skills:

Excellent organizational skills to independently establish priorities while working effectively under pressure, with frequent interruptions.

Operational Knowledge:

Expert knowledge of and consultative experience with one or more of the following areas: business; human resources; policy implementation; administrative systems development; operational and programmatic activities related to human resources, safety, security, environmental compliance, training, quality and performance assurance; strategic and tactical planning; project management; financial management; office and laboratory space utilization and planning; and personnel management.

Business Operations Acumen:

Strong professional level business acumen to serve and successfully function as an advising member of a management team. Ability to work with all levels of internal and external personnel, and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts, including successfully building collaborations across organizational lines and networking with key contacts outside of area of professional expertise.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Detailed knowledge of LANL's organizational structure, policies and business systems.
  • Experience with all LANL Business systems
  • Experience working with sensitive and classified matter and in a classified environment
  • Active DOE Q Clearance

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
