Los Alamos National Laboratory 24/7 Emergency Management Response Operator 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Emergency Operations Team Leader, the Emergency Operations Support Center (EOSC) Operator at the EOSC is staffed 24/7 to support incident management and coordination, in this role you will receive and gather, and assesses information regarding abnormal or unusual events and emergency conditions across the Los Alamos Nation Laboratory (LANL). You will also coordinate the deployment of LANL emergency response assets, such as Incident Response Commanders, Hazardous Material Team, and other specialized teams, as required.
Monitors the LANL fire alarms systems and take actions in accordance with procedures and protocols.
Conducts time sensitive incident notifications to a diverse set of laboratory stakeholders to include contractor and federal senior leadership.
Support incident coordination with internal and external emergency response organizations and agencies.
Implements and coordinates worker protective actions using technology/systems.
Monitors and tracks LANL international travelers to ensure worker safety during international incidents (terrorism, natural phenomenon, etc.).
Serves in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Communications Unit during EOC activations.
Participates in drills, exercises, and program assessments, as assigned.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience in law enforcement, fire, rescue, security, medical dispatching; or other emergency service or high consequence field.
Experience working in fast paced, multitasking work environments; with the ability to quickly adapt and prioritize multiple work tasks.
Knowledge of word processing, computer programs and other software packages.
Knowledge of established procedures for answering multiple radio and telephone lines, and providing emergency or critical instructions as appropriate.
Effective oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal/customer service delivery skills.
Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Studies, Public Safety, Communications or related field and 2-4 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Experience with DOE Order 151.1D, Comprehensive Emergency Management System.
Knowledge of LANL site, organization, policies and procedures, and facility operations.
Experience working within the National Incident Management System/Incident Command System.
Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses.
Note to Applicants:
The candidate must be willing to work rotating shifts which include swing and graveyard shifts, weekends and holidays; work some scheduled and non-scheduled overtime, sometimes with little or no notice.
The candidate must be willing to work on-call rotations and supplemental on-call assignments; and as a member of the Emergency Operations Group (EMD-EO) be available for immediate call back with a maximum response time of 60 minutes.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
