Los Alamos National Laboratory Access Control Officer (Operations Specialist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Weapons Facility Operations (WFO) Division is seeking an Operations Specialist to join our dynamic team. WFO is responsible for facilitating mission execution at DARHT (Accelerator Facility), the High Explosives (HE) Sciences, Firing and Detonator Facilities and at the Weapons Engineering Tritium Facility (WETF). The selected candidate will report to the WFO Operations Manager, providing Access Control support for the High Explosive Areas. The selected candidate will qualify as an Access Control officer and be responsible for multitude of tasks to include, but not limited to: administering access to personnel, personnel accountability, maintain HE activity knowledge, coordinating access with programmatic managers and HE point of contacts, and providing appropriate coverage for after-hours operations. The Access Control officer will relay hazards and controls, lead emergency response, maintain badge reader, and provide metrics as requested, assist in procedure updates and development, and participation in projects/assessments.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrates exceptional confidence under extreme pressure.

  • Knowledge/understanding of the facility operations environment and functions such as: operations, maintenance, engineering, safety basis, environmental health and safety, quality assurance, training program, occurrence reporting, and contractor assurance.

  • Experience with typical support functions or processes such as: issues management, training, document control and records management, lessons learned, procurement, assessments, and metrics.

  • Demonstrates experience in decision making, organizing and prioritizing tasks, and taking initiative.

  • Experience planning and scheduling work activities.

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer service.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with typical business software and computer hardware.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of institutional and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Conduct of Operations.

  • Access Control experience, which includes: providing badge reader access, facility specific entry training, coordinating with facility and programmatic responsible line managers, coordinating with operations on the plan of the day/plan of the week process.

  • Experience executing emergency exercises/drills, communication systems and the use of radios, pagers, phones, etc.

Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working in the Weapons Facilities Operations Division, the successful candidates will work within a multidisciplinary operations team. The WFO Division maintains facilities operation of high explosives facilities and the non‐reactor nuclear Weapons Tritium Engineering Facility.
