Los Alamos National Laboratory Actinide Thermodynamics Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
We are seeking outstanding candidates for an exciting opportunity to be a postdoctoral fellow to perform thermodynamic and structural studies of actinide phases including transuranic elements at various conditions. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to determine phase equilibria and structural transformations of actinide-bearing alloys and compounds in extreme environments (temperature, pressure, radiation and chemistry). This research is critical for tackling a range of issues in actinide science and technology with applications to national security, nuclear energy and environmental remediation. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Candidates should have experience conducting calorimetric experiments and thermodynamic analysis and/or structural determination using synchrotron X-ray scattering and Raman spectroscopy. Other desired skills include any of the following: experience working with radiological materials, skills in instrumentation setup and assembly, and/or strong background in crystallography, coordination chemistry and materials synthesis & characterization. Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills demonstrated through publications in professional journals and presentations at research meetings.
Education : A Ph.D. in geosciences, chemistry, physics, materials science or closely related fields completed within the last five years is required.
