What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Job Title Architect 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Contribute to a dynamic team of facility engineering professionals that provide engineering solutions across a wide variety of buildings at one of the most important research facilities in the world. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for an enthusiastic architectural engineer with an interest in building systems and infrastructure to work in the Engineering Services – Engineering Project Delivery (ES-EPD) group. This posting is for a Designer position within the Architectural discipline.
Architect 2 $77,300—126,000
The Architect role supports a business function that implements the framework for the disciplined execution of effective architecture at LANL through application of national consensus codes and standards, recognized quality standards, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, Laboratory requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
As an Architect, you will be expected to integrate with other disciplines, document control, safety basis, operations, maintenance, project management, or any other organization that needs architectural input to accomplish LANL deliverables; be able to work as part of a team; apply broad and diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices in the preparation of deliverables; and utilize applicable technology to accomplish work and continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.
Architect 3 $94,100—155,700
The Architect 3 will be responsible in leading all aspects of the Architect 2 position. May be assigned independent work or tasks based on the complexity of the task.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Thorough knowledge and experience in architectural consulting, design, and construction management.
In-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, building codes, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of architecture to both technical and non-technical personnel, including management, customers, peers, and craft personnel. Skill in the preparation and presentation of architectural reports and support documents.
Skilled in performing work in accordance with the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) procedures and applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards.
Proven Experience in developing Contract Documents consisting of drawings and specifications to define changes to buildings and infrastructure; perform calculations to support design changes; and incorporate applicable design requirements including nuclear safety requirements.
Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment as a member of a multi-discipline team of architects, engineers and designers.
Experienced in representing the design agency through interface and coordination with other engineering disciplines and the customer’s representative during design and construction; skilled at obtaining, evaluating and comparing material, product and equipment selections from manufacturer’s resources and representatives.
Additional Job Requirements for Architect 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires an advanced knowledge, experience, skill, and ability in performing the requirements listed above, including:
Advanced knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting architectural design.
Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting architectural design.
Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, and 3 years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.
Education/Experience at higher level: Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, and 6 years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.
Master’s Degree in Architecture preferred.
Professional Architectural License or Architectural Registration Examination in progress.
Ability to produce designs utilizing AutoCAD and Revit tools and work processes.
Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
