What You Will Do

The Weapons Research Services Weapons Mission Technology (WRS-WMT) group is seeking an expert level software developer to participate in complex weapons programs innovative solutions for weapons data archiving systems and other information and data repository needs. This work will include analyzing, gathering requirements, documenting, implementing and evaluating solutions using COTS, GOTS and internally developed software/hardware applications to include integrated search and repository applications.

The selected candidate will analyze, design, and deliver creative solutions for multiple complex weapons program knowledge systems projects such as integrating weapons content repositories, organizing and serving classified weapons videos, facilitating research collaboration, and providing data analytics. In addition, selected candidate for this position will work on classified and unclassified systems, develop search and repository applications using Java, JSP, React, Node JS and related tools for WRS-WMT supporting scientific research, weapons physics data and information management, bulk data transformation and other needs as they emerge.

These tasks may include requirements analysis, software design, installation, testing and maintenance, as well as advancing application security, writing documentation, supporting and training scientific, engineering and administrative customers.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement data governance, best practices and design principles.

  • Design and develop code, scripts and data pipelines that leverage structured and unstructured data integrated from multiple sources.

  • Develop and maintain content ingestion, validation and transformation, and populating data into the various data repositories

  • Provide technical direction and/or coordinates activities with team members and other relevant personnel;

  • Research, evaluate, and make recommendations around the implementation of new or existing software features and emerging technologies;

  • Analyze user requirements for system features and functionality, investigating software requirements, original programming, system testing, and creating comprehensive software documentation;

  • Working in Apache ecosystem components Kafka and Zookeeper for real-time message processing

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with researching, designing, installing, managing, and troubleshooting complex IT systems;

  • Proficient in Python, Java, JSP, React, and Node JS;

  • Understanding of Big Data concepts;

  • Experience in XQuery coding in MarkLogic also XML technologies (such as XSLT, XPath and XQuery);

  • Demonstrated experience with MarkLogic, understanding of MarkLogic libraries and tools, data modeling and storage/sizing; and

  • Demonstrated communication skills with all levels of personnel, including management, administrators, scientists and engineers.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with tools/technologies such as Docker, Jenkins, GIT, Gitlab, Maven, Kibana, LDAP and SAML;

  • Experience developing with Oracle’s Application Express (APEX) and PL/SQL;

  • Experience with managing video streaming services;

  • Experience working with Atlassian tools including Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, and associated plugins;

  • Experience with Mongo and/or NoSQL database

Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work may be desirable.
