What You Will Do
The Accelerator Operations & Technology Division is looking for a dedicated professional to join our management team as our Chief of Staff. This position will contribute to the success of our organization in a number of ways. Some of the expected job duties include oversight of administrative staff at the group and division level as well as ensuring that the organization is operating efficiently while complying with applicable policies and practices of the laboratory. This position supports administrative systems, providing guidance on staffing and is key to logistical planning for the division. Finally, this position serves as a mentor to administrative staff throughout the division.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Substantial experience with administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities.
Ability to function as a member of an executive management team, to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
Advanced knowledge of Laboratory, DOE, and/or NNSA business, operational, and programmatic missions, goals, commitments, and critical issues.
Demonstrated success at managing teams to accomplish organizational goals.
Experience heading up process improvements in administrative and/or functional areas of operation.
Experience collecting and evaluating data in order to identify and address complex problems
Ability to direct the administration of assigned staff, including forecasting staffing requirements, directing assignments, assuring training and development, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating personnel actions.
Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and secure work environment
Advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure, and governing and implementing policies, procedures, and instructions.
Proficiency in multiple laboratory-wide business systems (e.g. Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur, and iProcurement, MOV Database, OBI Reports, Performance Management) and computer software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Advanced knowledge of laboratory requirements for document and records management.
Knowledge of Federal policies and procedures as they relate to legacy materials and equipment.
Ability to exert influence with stakeholders and partners to achieve organizational objectives.
Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Accelerator Operations and Technology Division provides leadership in the Laboratory’s core capability of Accelerators and Electrodynamics, which drives a wide range of LANL mission relevant portfolios. In particular, AOT operates the LANSCE proton accelerator complex and conducts applied research and development in accelerator-focused technologies as they apply to Free Electron Lasers, National Security Science programs, and future accelerator missions.
