Los Alamos National Laboratory Civil Design Engineer (Engineer 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for an exceptional Civil Design Engineer I to join our team within the Engineering Services Division, Utilities Engineering Services group (ES-UI). The Utilities Engineering Services group is seeking an individual with civil design skills to support the expanding LANL mission. The Laboratory has a footprint of over 42 square miles with extensive infrastructure including building sites, roads, transportation structures and miles of utility lines running throughout the laboratory. This position will primarily support the Laboratory’s Special Projects and Civil Design organizations. The selected candidate will work as part of the Special Projects and Civil Design Team designing, maintaining and upgrading facilities at the LANL site. Engineering design work will include development of plan and profile drawings, road, parking lot, sidewalk, utility, and other civil design projects. Successful candidate will also develop design details, calculations, equipment data sheets, specifications, etc. that incorporate the applicable design requirements. The successful candidate will interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer during the development of the design, and be part of the team observing the construction and turnover of assigned projects.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of civil design engineering, principles, design guides and appropriate standards.
Knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques. Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Experience in civil analyses in accordance with National codes and Standards such as AASHTO, AWWA, NPDES and/or others.
Knowledge of Project Engineering Practices.
Knowledge of engineering work planning and design coordination.
Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 0 to 2 years of practical work experience.
Proficient knowledge of utility systems.
Demonstrate knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance.
Knowledge of LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) Policies and Procedures and IBC requirements.
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems.
This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
