What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Compensation Analyst 2 or Compensation Analyst 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Human Resources Compensation organization is responsible for providing compensation consulting services to the leadership team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The consulting services include recommendation, development and implementation of the organization’s salary management systems and processes to retain and motivate a highly qualified and high-performing workforce. In addition, the organization ensures fair and equitable compensation practices that are consistently applied and provide equal opportunity for Laboratory employees that are in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, executive orders, DOE contract requirements, and sound business practices.

Lower Level Title (Salary Min: $67,900; Mid - $87,800; Max – $107,700)

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Reviews salary increases for compliance with Laboratory policy and budget.

  • Administers salary programs and acts as internal consultant counseling managers and HR field services staff regarding compensation actions.

  • Evaluates routine compensation-related problems.

  • Reviews requests for new or revised classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignment.

  • Prepares and designs written and verbal information to inform employees of compensation policies.

  • Participates in compensation surveys to collect and analyze competitive salary information.

  • Assists in the preparation of the compensation increase plan.

  • Assists in the implementation and administration of the performance and salary management process.

  • Participates in various compensation program initiatives.

  • Adheres to policies and programs concerning compensation.

Higher Level Title (Salary Min: $81,600; Mid - $107,500; Max $133,400)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Compensation Analyst 3 will be required to:

  • Designs, implements and monitors the Laboratory's base salary and incentive programs.

  • Responsible for coordinating, administering, evaluating and monitoring these plans for effectiveness and to ensure program objectives are achieved.

  • Communicates results of the programs and makes recommendations for improvements based on results.

  • Takes a lead role in the development, implementation and administration of annual programs such as the compensation increase plan and the performance and salary management process.

  • Formulates recommendations regarding the development of Laboratory salary structures.

  • Recommends corrective or alternative actions to resolve complex compensation-related problems.

  • Collects and analyzes salary survey data to determine Laboratory's competitive position.

  • Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting compensation policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues.

What You Need

  • Working knowledge of compensation programs and human resources policies.

  • Working knowledge of compensation principles, legislation and current compensation trends and events impacting compensation programs.

  • Knowledge in market trends and pricing practices.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills to effectively evaluate data and develop recommendations.

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Powerpoint software and HRIS systems.

  • Effective project management, communication and presentation skills.

Additional Job Requirements for the Compensation Analyst 3:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Compensation Analyst 3 requires:

  • In-depth knowledge of compensation program design and human resources policies.

  • In-depth experience performing complex analysis and research, making recommendations for improved compensation programs that includes variable and executive compensation.

  • Advanced experience with Oracle and Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) reporting tool, or a similar platform, supporting compensation programs, i.e. SAP, Access, PeopleSoft, SQL, etc.

  • Advanced e xperience with MarketPay (PayScale) or a similar web-based platform, to perform market pricing, and manage compensation survey participation.

  • Strong k nowledge or understanding of Public Sector, Gov't or Gov't Contractor compensation programs and practices.

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, MS Access, Word and PowerPoint and HRIS systems.

Desired Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of compensation principles, legislation and current compensation trends and events impacting compensation programs.

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint software and HRIS systems.

  • Possess s trong quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills to effectively evaluate data and develop recommendations.

Lower Level Education Required: T ypically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Higher Level Edu cation Required: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

The position requires an experienced compensation professional with a strong understanding of all aspects of compensation and a working knowledge of other HR-related disciplines.
