What You Will Do

The Fluid Dynamics Team within the CCS-2 group, Computer, Computational, and Statistical Sciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for several postdoctoral positions in computational fluid dynamics. The areas covered are: a) Direct Numerical Simulations of variable density turbulent flows, b) turbulence modeling, c) machine learning for turbulence, and d) multi-scale simulations. The successful candidates will:

  • Work on a team which includes other staff members, postdocs and students.

  • Run simulations on large-scale computational platforms.

  • There will be opportunities to publish in high-quality journals and present work at international conferences.

  • These positions are for a two-year term.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or related field within the past 5 years is required.

  • Strong publication record in one or more of the following areas: turbulence modeling, accurate numerical methods for compressible and finite differences, machine learning algorithms, and bridging methods for multiscale simulations.

  • Strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and the cover letter.

Desired Skills:

Familiarity with DNS/LES of compressible turbulence, multi-component flows, and/or reacting flows and/or molecular dynamics.

Education: A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or related field completed within the past 5 years is required.

Additional Details:

Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
