What You Will Do
The Space Data Science & Systems Group (ISR-3) is seeking candidates for Computing Systems Professional positions within its System Development and Integration (SDI) team. This team is responsible for the design, implementation, and sustainment of complex computing systems for space and remote sensing scientific computing applications, large-scale data storage and archival, CAD/CAM, machine learning, and to support the development and operation of real-time embedded systems, data acquisition systems, telemetry systems, and distributed sensor networks.
Successful candidates will bring their experience in system architecture, system administration and integration, and software programming and work as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and solutions architects to provide well managed and resilient mission-aligned computing infrastructure at multiple classification levels. Some non-standard working hours and travel may be required.
This position will be filled at the Computing Systems Professional level 3 or 4 based on the skills and experience of the selected candidate.
Computing Systems Professional 3 ($89,900 - $148,300)
Design and development of specialized heterogeneous computing infrastructures
Lead the operation and maintenance of developed systems including monitoring & diagnostics, problem resolution, system backups, and security compliance
Develop and/or extend custom software tools necessary to support developed systems
Assist leadership in scheduling commitments and resources
Contribute to internal and external funding proposals
Contribute to peer review of work of others across organizations or disciplines
Computing Systems Professional 4 ($98,900 - $165,100)
In addition to the duties outlined above, Computing Systems Professional 4 responsibilities include:
Perform in a leadership role such as Project Leader or Team Leader with associated responsibilities for project controls/reporting and personnel management
Define software tools necessary to support developed systems
Define technical direction for team
Lead process and project planning for internal and delivered systems
Author proposals for internal and external funding
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Software development experience using high-level languages (C, Perl, Python, etc.) in a team environment using revision control tools (SVN, GIT, etc.)
Advanced system administration and development skills (kernel development, OS configuration, benchmarking, and performance)
Experience with developing systems to meet stringing security requirements (SGIT, ICD503, NIST 800-53)
Experience in a production computing facility with high availability requirements
Computer networking experience including router/firewall policy management
In addition to the minimum job requirements outlined above, the Computing Systems Professional 4 also requires:
Experience leading multi-person projects to meet scope, schedule and budget
Demonstrated project management skills including planning, execution, monitoring and closeout
Ability to consistently set goals and direction for multiple projects for yourself and other staff
Demonstrated experience managing technical staff including evaluation of performance, recruitment and selection, and technical development
Computing Systems Professional 3 Education Required : Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computing Systems Professional 4 Education Required: Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
