What You Will Do eXperience IT (XIT) is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Windows and Mac OS X System Administrator for the XIT Technical Services and Solutions (XIT-TSS) group. XIT-TSS consists of approximately 80 professionals, technicians, contractors and students. The successful candidate will work on the LendIT Team within XIT-TSS supporting customers across the laboratory and abroad.

The successful candidate will perform Windows and Mac desktop administration, including but not limited to:

  • Building and configuring Windows and Macintosh systems.

  • Working with all levels of management and our security partners.

  • Creating and updating how-to documentation for procedures/fixes.

  • Resolve issues remotely using Bomgar or over the phone.

  • Installation of software and security patches on master images and deployed systems.

  • Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Knowledge of Information Architecture processes and standards.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Windows and Mac OS X desktop administration.

  • Experience solving software and hardware issues such as:

  • Installing, configuring and troubleshooting desktop or mobile systems.

  • Accessing LANL networks from abroad using network connect, Junos Pulse, terminal, and ssh.

  • Experience with hardware or software hard drive and file encryption for both Windows and Mac.

  • Experience using the Mac command line.

  • Experience troubleshooting problems using Bomgar, SCCM Remote, or similar desktop automation systems to remotely address user issues.

  • Experience using a ticketing system.

  • Experience imaging Windows and Mac OS X systems.

  • Exceptional work ethics and time management.

  • Understanding and adhering to all Laboratory policies, procedures, and standards.

Desired Skills:

  • Vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows).

  • Creating and maintaining Windows and Mac Images using Windows DDS and Apple System Image utility.

  • Q-Clearance.

Education Required: Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

XIT is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a central services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
