What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Tec 4 or 5, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Windows and Mac OS X System Administrator for the XIT Unclassified Systems Services (XIT-USS) group. XIT-USS consists of approximately 67 professionals, technicians, and students. The successful candidate will work in XIT-USS and will be providing dedicated desktop support services to an assigned customer base in various locations across the laboratory. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical support services in a heterogeneous computing environment for XIT-USS customers.
Computing Systems Tec 4 ($61,500 - $97,700):
The successful candidate will perform the full spectrum of remote and field level Windows and Mac desktop administration, including but not limited to:
Support Windows and Mac desktop systems
Ticketmaster role and responsibilities
R esolve issues or fulfill requests through Windows and Mac remote desktop support
Troubleshoot issues through on-site field support
Installing, configuring and troubleshooting desktop, or mobile systems, workstations, and network issues including, wireless and role-based access control in a heterogeneous environment
Setup and installation of hardware and software
Providing outstanding customer service, including working with customers to resolve issues
Experience working well in a team environment as well as working independently
Computing Systems Tec 5 ($67,900 - $107,700):
In addition to the duties outlined above, theComputing Systems Tec 5 will be required to:
Proactively managing systems utilizing Active Directory
Researching emerging technologies, new industry trends, and hardware and software tools and solutions
Experience with managing projects to fulfill customer technical needs
Communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
Willing to learn and provide support for Windows server and thin clients hardware and infrastructure
Practice Information Architecture processes and standards
Must be willing to mentor
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X system administration
Experience researching, installing and solving complex software and hardware/network issues in a heterogeneous computing environment
Experience troubleshooting problems using Bomgar, SSH, or similar desktop automation systems to remotely administer systems
Experience with hardware or software hard drive encryption and software file encryption
Experience implementing “Best Practices”, processes, and standards
Exceptional work ethics and time management
Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Tec 5:
In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Computing Systems Tec 5 level requires:
Demonstrated knowledge of Windows Server support and administration
Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment
Experience using configuration management tools
Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner and giving presentations
Mentoring and training team members
Vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows)
UNIX/Linux system administration experience
Working knowledge or familiarity with Windows and/or Mac Server Administration.
Computing Systems Tec 4 Education Required: Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
Computing Systems Tec 5 Education Required: Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
Essential Job Functions: Sitting, Standing, Walking, Running, Climbing stairs, Climbing Ladders, Bending, Stooping, Crouching, Kneeling, Crawling, Twisting the trunk or back, Balancing, carrying 10-20 pounds.

Where You Will Work
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
XIT is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
