What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist- 1 or the Production Control Specialist- 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected candidate will effectively and compliantly manage programmatic, facility, maintenance, and construction material for the Associate Lab Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This is a vital part of ensuring programmatic, construction, and facility milestones and deliverables are met. The material is managed in multiple locations throughout the directorate to include TA55, CMR, RLUOB, RLW, TWF, and soon the TA46 warehouse. The new TA46 warehouse will be the “hub” for the distribution and storage of all ALDWP material. Utilize inventory management systems to maintain and verify inventory levels as well as ensure item traceability. Ensure items are stored on shelves and organized in a manner that will ensure expeditious item retrieval. Responsible for locating, pulling and staging material for maintenance and construction related activities. Ensure material pulled is the correct Management Level (ML) for end use application and complies with applicable codes and standards. Comply with institution controlled storage procedures, P330-11, 12 and 13. Ensure material is controlled, defined storage levels are met, shelf life enforcement, accuracy of inventory records, and maintenance or special handling of quality-affecting items. Provides customers with inventory status reports, ensure minimum stocking levels are maintained. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat; maintaining clean receiving area; comply with procedures, rules, and regulations; work cohesively in a team environment; provide high level of attention to detail; and exhibit strong organizational skills.

Production Control Specialist- 1 ($51,100 - $79,100)

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage the storing handling and inventory of all materials and equipment within an established controlled storage area.

  • Ensure proper labeling and identification of items in the controlled storage area.

  • Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory management system.

  • Issue items to users through authorized mechanisms.

Production Control Specialist- 2 ($61,500 - $97,700)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Production Control Specialist- 2 will be required to:

  • Perform periodic storage area assessments.

  • Assure the integrity and accountability of items stored.

  • Segregate items, systems, structures, and components by ML-1, ML-2, and ML-3 as required.

  • Track and manage shelf life requirements for items.

  • Comply with in-storage maintenance programs for items that require maintenance while in storage, as appropriate.

  • Manage and evaluate materials within storage areas that are no longer required for maintenance, projects or operations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage material in accordance with applicable quality assurance and industry standards.

  • Ability to comply with formal policies, and procedures specifically relating to controlled storage, spare parts management, and procurement.

  • Demonstrated experience with Inventory Control and/or Material Tracking systems.

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in interacting with customers in a customer service-related setting.

  • Demonstrated experience working cohesively in a team environment.

  • Possess high attention to detail including strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, observation skills and problem solving skills.

  • Above average computer skills and comfortable learning new computer applications as required for the job.

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to obtain a Q access authorization.

  • Record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions.

  • Ability to obtain a forklift license.

Additional Job Requirements for Production Control Specialist- 2

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Production Control Specialist-2 level requires:

  • Knowledge of production and inventory control and planning methods.

  • Ability to perform procurement related functions.

  • Critical thinker and demonstrated problem-solving skills.

  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and/or construction activities and possess an aptitude toward mechanical and electrical components.

  • Demonstrated experience with understanding Supply Chain principles and practices.

  • Proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access.

  • Accomplished in analysis, active listening, communication, and decision-making.

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years practical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic environment.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiar with logistics and production planning concepts (e.g., just‐in‐time, materials requirement planning); broad range of computer skills – database, spreadsheet, ability to communicate findings and make recommendations.

  • Experience managing material in a nuclear environment and ensuring item traceability.

  • Awareness and willingness to learn supply chain management practices and the appropriate handling of chemicals and their storage requirements.

  • Q clearance.

Production Control Specialist-1 Education Required: Position typically requires a Bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Production Control Specialist-2 Education Required: Position typically requires a Bachelor’s or higher degree in an engineering, scientific, or business management discipline, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

The selected candidate will report to the Nuclear Process Infrastructure Materials Management & Business Solutions (NPI-8) Warehousing first line manager. The (NPI) Division provides the necessary business process and support functions to ensure Los Alamos National Laboratory, through the ALDWP, successfully executes its mission assignments involving nuclear and explosive materials, science, technology, and weapons components. NPI partners with the ALDWP Engineering, Operations, and Program Management Divisions and with the ADNHHO Facility Operations Directors at TA-55 and TA-22 to achieve mission success.

The NPI-8 Materials Management and Business Solutions Group provides an array of procurement and warehousing support services critical to ALDWP operations at TA-55, RLW, TWF, CMR and RLUOB. The group has dedicated staff that strive to deliver Best in Class procurement and warehousing support to enable plutonium science and manufacturing in support of the national defense.

NPI-8 provides business solution services in the areas of web-based application development and management, development of information management systems and business process automation in support of work performed for ALDWP.
