What You Will Do

The Office of Counterintelligence is seeking an experienced counterintelligence professional to join our team as a Counterintelligence Officer 4. This position conducts counterintelligence and counterterrorism investigations and due diligence as well a briefing DOE and LANL senior decision-makers on highly sensitive cases. This position is also responsible for briefing LANL personnel who travel to sensitive countries and debriefing them upon their return.; This position will be expected to generate intelligence reports from strategic debriefings and other activities as well as collaborating effectively with other parts of the laboratory and US intelligence community personnel.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Extensive US intelligence community experience and familiarity with seminal intelligence community policy (e.g., EO 12333, PDD 61).

  • Knowledge of foreign intelligence service methods and of non-traditional foreign intelligence collection.

  • Extensive experience in conducting and documenting complex investigations/operations.

  • Bachelor’s degree, strong literary skills and clarity of speech. The position requires much interviewing, constant writing (to include the production of raw intelligence reports), and many group presentations.

  • Interpersonal skills that foster teamwork and indicate the ability to interact professionally across LANL and with liaison partners.

  • Ability to travel domestically upon occasion to accommodate training or operational needs.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance which typically requires U.S. Citizenship.

Desired Skills

  • Active Q clearance and SCI accesses. If a candidate holds a clearance but not Q and SCI, OCI must be satisfied that Q and SCI can be obtained expeditiously. A selected candidate cannot begin work in OCI until Q and SCI are in place.

  • Familiarity with the DOE Counterintelligence/Counterterrorism Program.

  • Demonstrated ability to draw highly nuanced threat indicators from seemingly casual conversations.

  • Demonstrated experience to recognize non-verbal cues suggesting deception.

  • Proficiency in a critical foreign language.

  • Derivative classifier certification. Upon joining OCI, a successful candidate not already a derivative classifier must acquire certification as soon as feasible.

  • Cyber user literacy.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Without disrupting the scientific and technical mission for which DOE, NNSA and LANL exist, OCI integrates these programs to foster counterintelligence and security and protect LANL and the DOE complex from foreign intelligence activity and terrorism.
