What You Will Do
The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for day-to-day Red Hat Network Satellite Server (RHNSS) operations. RHNSS services approximately 2000 Red Hat Linux workstations and servers in the Visitor facing, Unclassified, and Classified networks. Duties include system administration of the production RHNS servers which include proxy, connected, disconnected and test servers.The RHNS team is responsible for providing the user community with a HTTP based network installer (LANL ExpressWay Red Hat), system rescue services, and updates via HTTPS for registered Red Hat Enterprise Linux clients. The selected candidate will utilize RHNS to keep track of registered clients’ hardware and software, errata that apply to each system, along with vulnerabilities that affect each system and the listing of outdated packages. The selected candidate will workwith Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6 and 7 workstations and servers. The RHNS team is also responsible for providing LANL packages (STOR, rhusreg, csdreg, DOE Warning Banner) through custom LANL channels. The selected candidate will ensure that Red Hat updates have gone through Quality Assurance/Quality Control before being released to the LANL user community. Duties include lead in the testing, evaluation, planning and deployment of the next generation of Satellite Server 6 as well as serving as LANL’s primary contact with Red Hat.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Red Hat Linux systems administration and security configuration experience
Demonstrated innovative problem solving in a heterogeneous computing environment
Demonstrated ability to work independently analyzing problems, proposing, implementing and documenting solutions
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve difficult technical problems on the Linux platform
Architecting solutions that are or include UNIX/Linux systems in an enterprise environment
Experience using formal ticketing management system
Experience with programming using the bash shell and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, etc)
Superior customer service in computer support
Ability to work in an unclassified and classified environment
Experience administering a Red Hat Network Satellite Server
Familiarity with at least one Linux distribution other than Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Familiarity with at least one relational database system (MySQL, postgres, Oracle, etc)
Demonstrated experience working with Virtualization
Familiarity with RHEL DISA STIG or NIST USGCB
Experience with kickstart installations and Anaconda installer
Ability to supervise and mentor colleagues
Education: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
