What You Will Do
We are seeking an experienced information technology professional to join our team as a Level 2 Alternate Information Systems Security Officer (L2 AISSO). The Compliance and Accreditation (C&A) Teamplans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to enterprise networks and IT systems, including security plan management, Protected Distribution Systems (PDS), TEMPEST, and COMSEC. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Serving as an Alternate ISSO for the Level 2 Information System Security Plan (L2 ISSP). The L2 ISSP is comprised of LANL’s classified and unclassified network and infrastructure services.
Working as a self-motivated contributor to the cybersecurity and compliance of LANL’s institutional networks.
Representing the best interests of the institution and the LANL customer base.
Working with LANL’s IT stakeholders, IT management, and federal oversight to process compliant lab wide IT initiatives.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of and experience with LANL’s information security policies and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: computer science, information security, information assurance, or cyber security.
Thorough knowledge of LANL’s network and IT support organizations.
Demonstrated support of LANL’s mission organizations through IT based solutions.
Ability to communicate complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to compose technical documentation, to include IT security plan type products.
Advanced knowledge of institutional tools/technologies, and their various applications.
Advanced knowledge of NNSA and national policies relative to information assurance.
Technical knowledge of networking technologies and concepts.
Experience with IT audits and assessments.
Active DOE Q Clearance
Education Required : Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in a technical field and a minimum of 4 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level post graduate work may be expected.

Where You Will Work
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
You will work under the Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE) division supporting a computing environment scaling from “desktop to teraflops,” a diverse and challenging network environment unavailable anywhere else. Within NIE, the Engineering and Security Services (NIE-ESS) group is responsible for LANL's classified and unclassified institutional network services and for the security of our network infrastructure. NIE-ESS cyber security services include computer security incident response, network anomaly and intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment and mitigation, and network firewalls.
