What You Will Do
The selected candidate will be an Oracle Database Administrator within the Infrastructure Services team. This team is one of three database administration teams within the Software and Applications Engineering Division (SAE), Enterprise Applications and Database Services Group (SAE-3). This group provides database, middleware, and application administration, as well as reporting and analytics and application security services for LANL business systems and other mission related applications. These systems support core business services, manufacturing, nuclear waste processing, data warehousing, training, facilities management, etc. This team is involved in the entire software lifecycle of the systems they support.
This position will be filled at the Database Administrator 2 level.
Database Administrator 2 ($75,400 - $122,900)
The successful candidate will be required to perform the following tasks:
Create and maintain new documentation as it relates to the database environment
Provide operational support for Oracle databases, including managing back-ups
Own, track, and resolve database related incidents and requests
Effectively communicate with the team and others
Follow established security and integrity controls
Participate in an on-call rotation to support after hour issues and planned work
Receive training and active mentoring from more experienced DBAs will be provided in all of these areas to candidates with limited experience that have recently completed a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field
Apply full understanding of the Oracle Database Administration field plus working knowledge of other related IT fields, such as software engineering, Linux system administration, and networking to meet customer needs
Troubleshoot issues across the stack that affect the database, including network and infrastructure related issues
Collaborate with systems analysts, developers, system administrators, and senior Oracle DBA’s, as needed, to design Oracle database technical solutions that meet business data requirements
Translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of technical organizations
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Relational database knowledge including installing, configuring, and maintaining Oracle 12c or higher databases on Linux or similar OS (including production and non-production environments)
Working understanding of Oracle Relational Database management concepts - Backup, recovery, monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, diagnosing, patching, design
Linux or Unix (exposure in school or work environment)
Bash or Korn shell scripting (exposure in school or work environment)
Oracle SQLPlus and PL/SQL (exposure in school or work environment)
Maintaining security and integrity controls within Oracle database systems
Assisting with the definition and implementation of standards, operational support procedures and enhancements to security, performance and reliability for Oracle databases
Working independently to determine the approach, plan the schedule and manage own activities in accomplishing objectives
Providing limited technical direction and/or coordinate activities of other less experienced personnel and student interns
Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes
Ability to partner with customers, and translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of the division
Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes
Experience administering Oracle databases on WINDOWS
Familiarity with the Oracle Advanced Security Options
Familiarity using OEM, or other COTS products such as Toad, for Oracle database administration and automation
Familiarity with NFS and ASM storage
Oracle Database Administrator 2 Education Required:
Position typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or other technical degree with computer emphasis
Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division, provides software and applications development and support, database development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Enterprise Applications and Database Services Group (SAE-1) within SAE provides database implementation and administration for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
