Los Alamos National Laboratory Emergency Preparedness Specialist: Readiness Assurance (Emergency Planing and Prep Specialist 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do_

The Emergency Management Division – Emergency Preparedness Group (EMD-EP) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as an Emergency Preparedness Specialist (Readiness Assurance) to support EMD-EP in its mission of preparing first responders, the workforce, and offsite stakeholders for disasters and emergency events. EMD-EP mission activities include emergency planning, training, drills, exercises, readiness assurance, and wildland fire management. The selected Emergency Preparedness Specialist (Readiness Assurance) will provide support to the Emergency Readiness Assurance Program as defined within U.S. Department of Energy Order 151.1D, Comprehensive Emergency Management System. The Emergency Readiness Assurance Program includes the planning and conduct of exercises and programmatic assessments and the identification of issues and improvements resulting in corrective actions and lessons learned. Specific duties may include such activities as the collection, analysis, and consolidation of data; report writing and review; assisting with providing resolutions to a variety of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of numerous factors; scheduling, logistics, coordination, and/or Controller/Evaluator activities for planned facility and site-level emergency exercises; contribution to the fulfillment of other EMD-EP projects that support organizational objectives.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience in conducting research, analyzing information, and recommending solutions to problems.

  • Experience in engaging and leading diverse sets of stakeholders to successful program or project outcomes.

  • Demonstrated skills in communication to include technical writing and editing and oral communication to include public speaking.

  • Experience with performance/process improvement principles such as conducting audits or assessments; developing and applying lessons learned; conducting risk characterization; identifying and tracking issues and corrective actions; and performing causal analyses.

  • Experience with administrative and business systems including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Outlook.

  • Ability to manage conflict while working in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of emergency management principles, concepts, and practices (all phases).

Education:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or a minimum of two years related experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The mission of the EMD - Emergency Preparedness Group (EMD-EP) is to protect life, property, and resources, and the environment by preparing for disasters and emergency incidents that cannot be prevented or mitigated in order to ensure an efficient and effective emergency response and recovery.
