Los Alamos National Laboratory Fire Protection Maintenance Lead (Technical Project Manager 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced fire protection professional to fill the Fire Protection Maintenance Lead role for the Central Execution maintenance group. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager for MSS-CE, the selected candidate will provide technical guidance and expertise regarding fire alarm, suppression and special hazard system installation, maintenance and repairs.

As the maintenance lead, you will work directly with fire protection crews to ensure fire protection systems across the laboratory are maintained in accordance with applicable codes, standards, laboratory policies and manufacturer recommendations. You will be responsible for generating, revising, reviewing and implementing institutional Preventive Maintenance Instructions (PMIs), maintaining the fire protection impairment database and generating reports, coordinating critical spare inventory with warehouse personnel, supporting Replacement-in-Kind project execution, and provide technical field direction for complex repairs in systems across the laboratory which may include subcontract support resources.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Expertise

In depth knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards regarding fire protection system maintenance, including but not limited to NFPA 10, 25, 72, 2001 etc.; demonstrated experience in fire protection maintenance, inspection and testing to include one or more of the following: fire alarms and signaling, fire suppression, clean-agent fire suppression and releasing (CO2, Halon, FM-200, NOVEC-1230 etc.) and life safety equipment.

Collaboration and Problem Solving

Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing, and resolving problems and both independently and as a team member in regards to issues affecting facility fire protection systems; the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

Program Coordination

Experience establishing, maintaining and coordinating a Fire Protection Maintenance program; the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

Communication

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in technical writing, preparing technical reports and documents, and developing and giving verbal presentations to small groups.

Training/Certifications: National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET®) Certification(s), or equivalent, in Inspection and Testing of Water Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is preferred for this level.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Q-Clearance.

  • Manufacturer specific fire alarm panel training/certification for NOTIFIER®, Edwards, Honeywell, etc.

  • Experience training maintenance personnel.

  • Extensive knowledge of DOE/government and industry regulations regarding facility maintenance.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
