Los Alamos National Laboratory Formality of Business Operations Specialist / Operations Support Specialist 3 / 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Operations Support Specialist 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Come help support the LOG-BRM Group Leader directly in providing business solutions for the Logistics Division.

By leveraging business expertise, project management and customer service skills, and an advanced knowledge of Craft business lines, you will work to document, improve, and support systems, processes, and projects to lead to an innovative and successful Logistics Division.

Collaborate to identify solutions and support resolution of business problems in a fast-paced environment that provides critical support throughout the LANL institution.

Operations Support Specialist 3 ($75,400 - $122,900)

Much of the work scope will require quick and creative response to emergent requests, so an energetic, optimistic, and hyper-focused skill set is tantamount. In addition, routine work will include but is not limited to:

  • Coordinating various project management and execution functions in conjunction with or in support of operational program compliance for the Logistics Division. This includes planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of work activities and an expert data, system, and software application management background.

  • Utilizing advanced knowledge of budgeting and cost accounting to enable routine work with budgeting personnel. Includes review of financial data and ability to provide projections for complex variance analytics for an extremely high fluctuating and unique workforce.

  • Providing advanced document control support to ensure compliance with document and records management policy and procedure.

  • Developing advanced data queries and reports to enable management to make data driven decisions for performance data, compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.

  • Teaming with and supporting initiatives with other members of the LOG-BRM group.

Operations Support Specialist 4 ($91,800 - $151,400)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the Operations Support Specialist 4 will assist with tasks to support the LOG-BRM Group Leader and leadership to junior Maintenance or Operations Support Specialists. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Interacting with and define relationships for external organizations to ensure efficient communications and work execution on behalf of Logistics at an advanced level. May include Fiscal Year End Closing Coordination, providing an interface with Craft Timekeeping and Payroll, and collaboration for cross-organizational custom or OTS applications.

  • Assisting in the oversight, development, and management of self-assessments, corrective actions, and issues management in general for unusually significant, unique, or complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible factors, including the compilation, review, and assessment of data and the development of management assessments and/or recommendations.

  • Developing advanced concepts, techniques and standards based on professional principles and practices in relation to operational support activities.

  • Providing expert-level consultative customer service to internal and external customers and support or guidance of deployed resources e.g. system analysts, budget analysts, etc.

  • Assisting in annual LOG-BRM budget development in concert with budget analyst(s).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated advanced experience translating, compiling, analyzing, and presenting complex data from disparate systems and organizations using Microsoft tools (primarily excel, word, outlook, SharePoint, and access).

  • Advanced knowledge of documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management.

  • Demonstrated advanced skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting Craft operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of business operations and operational quality assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in project, work, or application implementation(s).

Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Expert understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a consultative manner toward long-range targets and/or objectives.

  • Expert knowledge of the attributes of a sound conduct of operations program. Familiarity with all Department of Energy (DOE) training, and qualification.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of institutional and organizational policies, practices, and procedures, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement.

  • Advanced knowledge of or experience with LANL Systems (Asset Suite, UTrain, Concur, Sunflower, Oracle modules, etc.).

  • Experience with Collective Bargaining Agreements and Craft or Unionized workforce personnel.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
