Los Alamos National Laboratory Hardened Room Accountant (Material Controls & Accountability Specialist 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Material Controls and Accountability Group is looking for an energetic, experienced, customer-focused professional to fulﬁll various nuclear material control and accountability (NMCA) duties and responsibilities. As a Material Controls and Accountability Specialist you will contribute to LANL’s National Security mission by helping to ensure compliance with DOE/NNSA requirements. You will be responsible for providing nuclear material accountability services and support including comprehensive analysis and reporting of nuclear inventory data, identifying inventory issues, and making recommendations for the resolution of issues.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Professional-level experience and scientific and technical excellence in at least one of the following areas: Accounting, nuclear instruments and methods, nuclear safeguards, security management, nuclear facility operations, or experimental nuclear science and engineering.
Experience with the use of accounting software.
Experience making decisions and resolving problems as a team member, using judgement, creativity, ﬂexibility and initiative to determine an approach or action to take in non-routine situations.
Demonstrated experience eﬀectively communicating in both written and oral formats.
Skill and experience interfacing with both technical and non- technical personnel, including management.
Experience with Microsoft Excel for report generation, presentation and trending.
Education/Experience: Position typically requires BA degree in accounting, computer science or management information systems or related field and a minimum of two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge of LANL MC&A requirements as outlined in the LANL Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Plan (NMCA-PROG-FSD-001).
Working knowledge of LANMAS transactions, including mix and split, containerization, updating items after measurement, editing, etc. to ensure compliance with DOE/NNSA requirements.
Understanding of nuclear material data, inventory support, related safeguards inquiries, and other components of the NMCA program.
Knowledge of oﬀ-site shipping and receiving of nuclear material.
Experience communicating components of nuclear materials accountability to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
