The XCP-4 (Continuum Models and Numerical Methods) is seeking applicants for a Post Doctoral Research Associate working with explosives modeling with interest in software implementation of models. XCP-4 is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide variety of physical models including high explosive and turbulence models, and is a leader in the development of numerical methods for hydrodynamics simulations, remap and code linking algorithms, and more.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge of modeling and simulation of energetic materials, reactive flows, or other experience with high explosives research/modeling.
Proficiency in a programming language such as Fortran, C/C++, and/orPython.
Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by a strong record of publications and presentations commensurate with experience.
Ability to work productively in a multidisciplinary team environment.\
Strong curiosity and motivation to learn and apply new technical concepts in novel ways.
Education/Experience : Doctoral degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.
Understanding of one or more of the following physical phenomena: compressible reactive flows; hydrodynamics and high speed, compressible flow; statistical micro-/meso-scale modeling of solid state chemical reactions and/or material failure with link/integration to continuum/macroscale models; the chemical and thermodynamic processes going on within a burning high explosive; detonator modeling with reactive burn models; detonation wave propagation in solid elasto-plastic porous media; hot spot ignition dynamics and deflagration to detonation transition; high explosive performance under various conditions, especially high/low temperature behavior and/or multiphase reactive flow.
Knowledge of numerical methods for single- or multi-physics applications as applied to high explosives or energetic materials.
Experience in developing/implementing, verifying, and validating models in multiphysics simulation software at the continuum scale.
Experience in developing and running large, parallel codes in a high- performance, Unix computing environment for many-core architectures.
