Reporting to the Human Resources Division Leader, you will be responsible for managing and leading strategic business partners and generalists in one of the Laboratory’s three directorates (Science, Technology & Engineering, Weapons, or Operations). You will partner with senior leadership to develop an effective HR/People agenda, steward the employee experience and manage a team responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management. This position serves as the primary interface with HR management regarding customer business priorities and objectives and facilitates seamless connections with other HR and business functions. As the most successful candidate, you will demonstrate your ability to utilize your expertise and business acumen to orchestrate solutions designed to solve organizational priorities. This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge Expert-level knowledge and consultative experience in HR disciplines, HR theories, principles, practices, and understanding of HR as an interrelated system of functional operations. Demonstrated experience applying complex/specialized knowledge to address organizational business needs. Proven expertise in data analytics and ability to use insight about a business environment to improve talent and business outcomes.
Strategic Customer Focus Demonstrated expertise in supporting managers in forecasting and planning their talent pipeline requirements in line with the overall business strategy. Advanced knowledge and consultative experience providing guidance to senior-level management and business teams, analyzing business challenges involving workforce, teaching leaders about the talent implications of decisions and offering solutions based on best practice and/or research.
Leadership and Management Demonstrated experience managing and providing leadership for a team of professionals in an extremely dynamic organization, including succession planning, talent development, performance management, and ensuring a diverse, inclusive, safe, and secure work environment and culture for direct staff. Demonstrated experience leading and facilitating strategic HR activities and special projects. Proven ability to coordinate the work of others and to create and sustain a team environment that fosters learning and collaboration. Demonstrated ability to successfully mentor junior and new staff.
Education and Years of Relevant Experience Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree (a master’s degree in business is highly desirable)in human resources or business from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A minimum of 5 years of experience leading others and experience in a consultative role is highly desirable.
Certifications: Professional certification (PHR, SPHR) is highly desirable.
LANL Structure: Detailed knowledge of organization and business as well as knowledge of lab organizational structure, mission and goals.
Clearance: Active DOE Q clearance.

This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
