The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division is the LANL application services provider of choice, partnering with our customers to provide best in class solutions in support ofoperations, mission, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) agenda.
SAE provides software development and COTS application implementation and support services for the Lab. Our mission is to “deliver reliable, secure and cost effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission.” SAE relies heavily on services provided by the ALDBUS Network and Infrastructure Engineering (NIE), eXperience IT (XIT) and Service Innovation(SI) organizations. We collaborate closely with our customers to develop solutions and support business functions across the Lab.
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified Computer Science, Information Technology (MIS) or Computer Engineering Undergraduate (Junior/Senior)students seeking challenging paid internship. Candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree within the past 3 years, but have not been accepted and enrolled in a graduate program and have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 for consideration.
The Enterprise Applications & Database Services Group (SAE-1) provides middleware and database development,engineering, and administration. The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity work to support the development and maintenance of various middleware software stacks, and/or databases, supporting Oracle, SQL Server, and emerging technologies in this space.
The Enterprise Business Software Group (SAE-2) provides a wide range of services including software application development and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) application implementation.These software applications support business areas such as financial, human resources, procurement, environment, safety and health, quality, waste management and manufacturing. The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to develop and maintain Lab-wide (enterprise) software, utilizing many of the modern languages, toolsets, and databases.
The Site Infrastructure, Mission, and Programs Software Group (SAE-3) provides software engineering services, custom web/mobile application development with modern frameworks, commercial off the shelf application implementations, 3Dgraphics and animation. In addition, SAE-3 provides support for inventory and control, electronic records management, electronic document control systems management, facility, engineering, site infrastructure systems, and business processing systems. The selected candidate will work to support the development and maintenance of various internal and external applications.
The Business Systems Solutions Center(SAE-4) acts as the primary interface between the functional customer and IT providing assistance with portfolio management, strategic planning, service management, business/systems analysis, and software quality assurance in order to deliver innovative and effective IT solutions. The successful candidate for this position will possess technical acumen in system design and configuration as well as a strong understanding of business process and workflow evaluation.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Software Engineering, to include general knowledge of one or more programming languages (Java, JavaEE, Python, etc.)
Emerging and advanced applications of IT
Cyber or Information security
Systems, project,and process management
Experience working effectively as partof a team
Basic knowledge and understanding of the syntax, structure, features and facilities of at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C#, ASP.NET
Basic knowledge and understanding of systems development life cycle
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge and understanding of relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
Experience with software configuration management; software quality assurance methodologies; software development methodologies
Experience reading and interpreting application system design and program specifications
Experience writing software programs in a specific language for a specific platform
