Reporting to the Group Leader of Performance Assurance (PA), the Institutional Process Improvement (IPI) Team Leader will be responsible for the oversite of institutional improvement and integration through both core and deployed staff. Additional responsibilities include performance planning and analysis; education of Lean Six Sigma Black Belts, Master Black Belts, Master Yellow Belts, and other LSS staﬀ; and the accurate development of metrics, trends, and analyses. With an overall focus on improving mission delivery, the Institutional Process Improvement Team Leader will have a span of control that stretches across all major areas of the Laboratory, including Science, Technology, and Engineering; Weapons; and Operations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC)
Demonstrated experience as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt exerting influence in the development of overall objectives and long-range goals of an organization related to DMAIC, including experience in the development and performance oversight of policies, procedures, and the systems required for maintaining and enhancing performance improvement initiatives.
Assessments and Benchmarking
Demonstrated experience using Lean Six-Sigma tools, techniques, and methodologies such as strategic gap analysis, lean, design for sigma, Kaizen events, etc. to drive organizational change through the use of internal and/or external benchmarks from private or public sectors to manage issues or corrective actions.
Demonstrated experience successfully interacting with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers involving matters related to quality, including the demonstrated ability to advise and coach customers while promoting continuous improvements within a learning environment.
Demonstrated experience performing as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members and leading cooperative efforts of project teams related to Kaizen or similar methodologies, including experience incorporating strategic gap analyses into every task; pausing/stopping work when necessary; and the demonstrated ability to create and respond to formal critiques while driving quality in work processes and products.
Supervision and Leadership
Demonstrated experience managing the activities of LSS individual contributors or supervisors in a section or department with accountability for results in terms of costs, strategies, and human resources.
Education and Years of Relevant Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Additional Education and Certification
Master’s degree in a related field and/or current professional certification as a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB).
Complex Technical Organizations
Knowledge of and experience deploying integrated organizational-level performance-based management systems in large, diverse, and/or complex scientific, engineering, and/or technical organizations.
Active DOE “Q” or other Top Secret clearance.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
