What You Will Do
The Nuclear Material Control and Accountability group is seeking a MC&A Manager 3 to provide leadership and operational support for the Material Control and Accountability team, based out of TA-55, which includes Material Balance Area Custodians and deployed NMCA staff. The selected candidate will lead a small/medium sized team of technical staff responsible for working with Material Balance Area owners to ensure compliance with applicable internal and external requirements. This is a high visibility, high impact, role requiring a balance of strong leadership and technical competence/ability. The selected candidate must be comfortable engaging with management throughout Los Alamos National Laboratory and DOE/NNSA, be able to anticipate challenges or obstacles and tactfully resolve them with minimal supervision.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Thorough knowledge and experience with Nuclear Material Controls and Accountability processes, procedures, and requirements.
Demonstrated experience professionally interacting and communicating effectively with all levels of personnel and management.
Thorough knowledge and experience with DOE O 474.2, Nuclear Material Control and Accountability.
Extensive experience in producing written documentation requiring a high level of attention to detail.
Demonstrated leadership experience and skills including: personal integrity and accountability, commitment to quality and excellence, broad institutional motivation and focus, and people development including mentoring, team building, and resolving conflicts among personnel.
Thorough knowledge and experience in the process requirements for handling of special nuclear material (SNM) and operating in laboratory type facilities.
Education/Experience: Requires a Master’s degree with 6+years of experience in a physical science, security & safeguards related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum of 3 years of supervisory/related management experience required. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.
Advanced experience with Nuclear Material Controls and Accountability processes, procedures, and requirements.
Demonstrated scientific and technically competent knowledge in at least one of the following areas: nuclear instruments and methods, nuclear safeguards, or experimental nuclear science and engineering.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
