Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Materials Synthesis & Characterization Scientist (Scientist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Engineered Materials Group (MST-7) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates for a staff scientist position with a focus on materials synthesis and characterization. The successful candidate will make key contributions to process development and scale-up for new classes of polymeric and composite materials as these technologies move beyond the benchtop and into production environments. The individual will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing materials synthesis techniques pertaining to polymeric foams, high strength-to-weight composites, and “smart” materials exhibiting multi-functionality - this is a highly hands-on position with a significant amount of time dedicated to the development of new materials with enhanced properties in a laboratory environment. In addition, the qualified individual will play a key role in evaluating aging and compatibility of novel materials for weapons applications in broad collaboration with other researchers both at the Laboratory and elsewhere within the NNSA complex. Finally, the candidate is expected to serve as a mentor for junior staff, postdoctoral researchers and students.
