Los Alamos National Laboratory MBA Custodian (Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1/2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1 /2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1 ($62,800 - $99,800)

As a Material Controls & Accountability Specialist you will ensure compliance with Material Control and Accountability requirements while working with staff from operations to ensure the success of critical work in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory mission objectives and National Security interests. You will be responsible for: analyzing and reporting nuclear material inventory data; preparing inventory statements and transactions, maintaining ledgers, accounts and tables; coordination of shipments and receipts of nuclear material; and coordinates input of inventory data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. You will interpret and identify nuclear transactions to ensure good business practices and adherence to domestic and international policies on accounting for nuclear materials; understand and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to nuclear material control & accountability and ensure all nuclear materials accountability results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.

Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2 ($75,400 - $122,900)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidate will be required to: conduct audits and appraisals of selected nuclear material accounting functions; monitor, analyze and correct variances between site nuclear material inventory records and external databases and analyze, interpret, and apply statistical inventory models to determine significance of inventory variances.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Technical knowledge and experience in at least one of the following: nuclear facility operations, MBA custodian duties, application of NMCA requirements of process operations, or chemical/physical processes dealing with nuclear material.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NMCA requirements as outlined in DOE O 474.2

  • Experience with the use of nuclear material accountability systems such as LANMAS.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience interpreting inventory transactions to ensure good business practices and adherence to policies on accounting for nuclear materials.

  • Problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute accounting decisions consistent with NMCA regulatory drivers and generally accepted accounting principles.

Additional Job Requirements for Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2 level requires:

  • Working knowledge of DOE/NNSA Nuclear Materials Control and Accountability Requirements.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Access and Excel for report generation, presentation and trending.

  • Experience in participating in nuclear material physical inventories, closing out physical inventory action forms, and item monitoring.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires Bachelor’s degree in accounting, computer science or management information systems or related field and a minimum of two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, computer science or management information systems or related field and five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with implementing, and enforcing, Material Control and Accountability requirements at Los Alamos National Laboratory in compliance with DOE/NNSA requirements.

  • Experience with implementing successful process improvement projects designed to improve both efficiency and quality.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
