The Lagrangian Codes Group (XCP-1) develops and maintains large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes as part of the Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) Program. Within XCP-1, the SimTools team provides geometry specification, mesh generation, and workflow support for a number of ASC physics codes.
In this role you would support the development and deployment of CrossLink, LANL’s next-generation 2D and 3D topology-based mesh generation and geometry software. The overarching goal of CrossLink is to provide geometry specification for complex 2D and 3D multi-material configurations and generate high-quality meshes for use by LANL’s various physics solvers. CrossLink builds upon the latest ad advancements in the field of mesh generation and has an aggressive feature development timeline. Because of this, the project has a large component of new feature research, development, and implementation along with testing, deployment, user feedback, and bug fixes.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Software Engineering & Design
You will need to have proficiency in object-oriented programming using C++ or similar language.
GUI & Graphics
You will need to have familiarity with GUI design and development (i.e., Qt, Java-based) as well as a basic understanding of computer graphics programming (i.e., OpenGL, DirectX).
Software Build Processes
You will need to have familiarity with software build processes (i.e., make, cmake).
High Performance Computing
You will need to have familiarity with high-performance computing environments such as Unix.
Team work is essential to the success of our group. You will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. This includes exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors.
This position requires the ability to obtain a Q clearance which typically requires U.S. Citizenship.
This position requires a Bachelor’ degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 2 years of related experience.
Alternatively, a Masters’ Degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university could be considered equivalent to 2 years of related work experience.
Preference may be given for degrees in computer science, app lied mathematics, engineering, or related field .
It would be great if you had experience with GPU programming and offloading (e.g., CUDA, Kokkos)
Software Development and Deployment
It would be a plus if you had experience with production software development, version control, testing, and deployment (CI/CD).
It would be beneficial if you had familiarity/experience with solver parallelization strategies (e.g., MPI, OpenMP)
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
