Los Alamos National Laboratory Microbial/Metabolic Engineering Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Bioenergy and Biome Sciences Group (B-11) of the Bioscience Division.

Multiple positions are available in a multi-disciplinary research project focused on enzyme and microbial engineering. The project combines protein engineering and high-throughput microbial diversification and screening for conversion of renewable substrates to value-added chemicals.

The successful candidate will work closely with a large team of Ph.D. staff scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and technicians.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Skilled in molecular biology and protein chemistry tools;

  • Prior expertise in creating and handling large protein or microbial libraries;

  • Knowledge of protein structures and understanding of protein sequence-structure-function relationships;

  • A strong publication record (e.g. 3 to 4 publications arising from Ph.D.);

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English language;

  • Three strong letters of reference.

Desired Skills: o Computational protein modeling and design using Rosetta o High throughput data production and evaluation and capability to learn from o Metabolic engineering in non-model organisms o Exposure to analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, MS. o A strong team player and ability to connect with the multi-disciplinary efforts

The position is for two years, with a third year possible contingent on excellent performance.
