Los Alamos National Laboratory Micron-scale Modeling of Plasticity in Metals Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

MST-8 is seeking a postdoc to join a team studying plasticity and phase transformation in metals subjected to extreme environments (stress, temperature, irradiation). The selected candidate will lead the development of spectral polycrystal constitutive model to study the synergies between dislocation mediated plasticity and radiation damage in metals used for cladding applications. The model development will rely on the use of spectral-based mechanical solvers. The position will be awarded to the candidate demonstrating exceptional talent with a successful collaborative and scientific track record.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Expertise in either constitutive modeling or spectral-based mechanical solvers.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of metals deformation behavior.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in code development, verification and validation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in algorithm development.

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which generally requires US citizenship.

Education: A PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related engineering discipline completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Q Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
