Los Alamos National Laboratory Mobile Application Developer (Software Developer 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join our team! SAE-3 is looking to hire a Mobile application developer to support the development and maintenance of institutional and departmental Mobile apps. The applications vary between internal LANL “use only” and those publicly available through Google Play Store and Apple app store.

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Software Developer 2 ($72,500 -$118,200)

Responsibilities include:

  • Supports software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting and implementing new hardware and software.

  • Works with customers and end users to understand requirements, coordinate resources, monitor timeline, and plan, track, and execute project plan.

  • Analyzes user requirements and evaluates work processes.

Software Developer 3 ($87,800 - $144,800)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Software Developer 3 responsibilities include:

  • Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

  • Frequently contributes to the development and/or implementation of new technical standards and methods.

  • Use a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Software Developer 2Demonstrated experience (with):

  • Software lifecycle knowledge including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation. The work experience must show progressively increasing levels of technical skills and complexity of work.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and implementing business solutions using Agile practices.

  • Experience developing web or hybrid Mobile apps using Java EE as the core framework.

  • Working knowledge of Mobile frameworks such as Ionic and Cordova.

  • Experience executing 3rd party JavaScript packages such as Angular, JQuery, etc.

  • Knowledge of development and source control tools such as Netbeans, Eclipse, Git, Subversion, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience with markup languages such as HTML5, XML, etc.

  • Familiarity with databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.

  • Familiarity with the use of JSON.

Software Developer 3:In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Software Developer 3 level requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and consuming web services using both REST and SOAP protocols.

  • Demonstrated experience tuning commercial application servers such as Weblogic.

  • Professional experience using Java Persistence API (JPA) and utilizing a provider such as Hibernate or Toplink.

  • Experience developing and securing Mobile apps using an MDM such as Good Dynamics, Mobile Iron, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing applications that utilize persistence layers such as SQL Server or Oracle.

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience developing software utilizing the various Spring packages.

  • Experience writing native iOS apps using Objective C.

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills.

Education:

  • Software developer 2: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Software developer 3: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
