What You Will Do
This position will be filled at the student intern level within the office for National Security and International Studies (NSIS).
We are seeking a motivated, hard-working student intern to join the NSIS Office. We want an individual who understands how to work in partnership with team peers, engage in productive dialogue, advocate and contribute to an inclusive work environment. The NSIS Office resides in the Director’s Offce at Los Alamos National Laboratory. NSIS serves as a resource for the Laboratory Director and senior management on key policy matters relevant to LANL’s mission. The scope of the Office includes nuclear weapons policy, nuclear strategy and deterrence, nuclear nonproliferation, counter proliferation, arms control, WMD terrorism and emerging threats from cyber and hybrid warfare.
In this entry-level position, you will support NSIS through contributions to research activities in the office. Typical tasks will include literature reviews, summary reports and contributions to ongoing work.
The position is located in Los Alamos, NM.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Motivated, self-starter who works collaboratively in team settings.
Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data and information in support of research related to policy.
Experience providing analysis to ongoing work, of low to moderate complexity.
Experience engaging in planning and evaluation of ongoing and future work.
Ability to work independently, organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks.
Strong communication skills.
Education: Current full-time enrollment in coursework at a college level and maintains a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
Ability to apply standard scientific approaches to problem-solving though planning, analyzing and execution.
Experience presenting and communicating concepts and ideas in oral and written form to small and large audiences
Experience working with Word, Excel and Powerpoint for developing reports and presentations.
Experience giving presentations to a variety of audiences.
