Los Alamos National Laboratory NEN-DO Professional Staff Assistant 1 (Professional Staff Assistant 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

We are looking for a motivated, customer service focused, and experienced individual to provide professional business and administrative support to the Nuclear Engineering and Nonproliferation Division (NEN).You must be an excellent problem-solver and be able to anticipate challenges and obstacles and tactfully resolve them while providing high-level professional administrative support to the division leader and deputies, group level management, first line managers, and division members.While executing your responsibilities, you will consistently maintain a professional office atmosphere (in which laughter is allowed), demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy, initiative, versatility, tact, a good sense of humor, and confidentiality. You will work closely with the NEN Chief of Staff in creating a team environment marked by close cooperation, adaptability, and a willingness to provide support where needed while serving as a point of contact, resource, and role model for administrative staff throughout NEN Division.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Administrative Support

Advanced-level experience providing high-level administrative support in a busy office environment requiring complex calendar management, domestic and foreign travel, procurement, meeting scheduling/logistics, visitor processing (including international visitors), accurate data entry and tracking, and time keeping. Experience with solving problems, developing and implementing solutions, and innovating business practices to ensure customer satisfaction at all levels.

Business Systems

Expert-level knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly with Outlook, Excel, and Word) and with Oracle business systems and Concur for domestic and foreign travel. Ability to Independently interpret data and information.


Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills while interacting effectively with people throughout the organization hierarchy and in partnership with internal support organizations. Grammatical proficiency, formatting, and editing capabilities expected at this level.


Demonstrated mentoring and teaming skills. Utilization of tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with sensitive and in-confidence information.

Personal Leadership

Demonstrated ability to calmly manage interruptions and changing priorities; to complete assignments with or without established procedures; and be available and dependable.

Education and Experience

Position requires five or more years of related experience; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Laboratory structure and administrative policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of Laboratory-specific business systems

  • Active DOE “Q” clearance

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
