Los Alamos National Laboratory NEPA Compliance Professional (Environmental Professional 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Apply your expertise in environmental policy and compliance to a diverse range of projects across Los Alamos National Laboratory’s approximately 40 square miles. You will work on a team of resource management specialists to analyze, assess, and document projects and their potential impacts in order to support the National Nuclear Security Administration’s compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Your experience with environmental protection regulations and strong writing skills will help enable the Laboratory’s broader mission of solving national security challenges through simultaneous excellence.

What You Need

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and experience with environmental protection regulations, policies, and procedures, especially National Environmental Policy Act for the Department of Energy.

  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research and preparing high-quality compliance documents for both technical and non-technical audiences on problems affecting environmental protection.

  • Provencustomer service orientation and experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement, or complete complex environmental projects.

  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex project proposals and evaluate technical documents for adequacy with regard to pertinent environmental requirements.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in environmental policy, environmental science, or related field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Department of Energy/Los Alamos National Laboratory mission activities, institutional organizations, programmatic scope of work, and operational structure.­

  • Specialized technical skillset applicable to environmental compliance such as GIS/spatial data management, environmental restoration, trails management, health impact modeling, or nuclear facility operations.

  • Master’s degree in environmental policy, environmental science, management, or a related discipline.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
