Los Alamos National Laboratory Operator 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Operator 2 reports to the UI Facility Operations Manager. They are responsible for maintaining operational control of UI facilities and their systems. Key functions include operating facility systems, supporting facility customer needs, and providing oversight of maintenance activities in UI buildings. Operators work closely with other staff including other Operators, Building Managers, Engineers, Maintenance, Safety, and subcontractor personnel.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrate experience that can be related to a wide variety of operations and maintenance activities on facility systems including, but not limited to: mechanical, electrical, structural, and control systems.
Capable of understanding and interpreting various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics
Willingness to learn new skills from others, work collaboratively, and to actively seek opportunities for increasing job-related training
Good understanding and awareness of safe working practices
Demonstration of ability to work independently, and increasing levels of responsibility in previous roles
Must be able to work assigned schedules, which may include occasional overtime, holidays if required, and serve in an on-call capacity on a rotating basis
Good communication skills
Education Required: Position requires a high school diploma and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be desirable. (An Associate Degree Desired)
Experience working in facility operations and/or maintenance
Experience operating mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, refrigeration, water treatment, and/or building automation systems
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Ability to hear high-pitched sounds, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz), climbing stairs, climbing ladders, bending, lifting 30 pounds, carrying up to 30 pounds. Standard physical requirements associated with field observation and oversight.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
