What You Will Do
The Physics-Division Office (P-DO) is seeking outstanding candidates for the full-time position of R&D Manager 4/Group Leader (GL) in our newly formed group P-2,Applied and Fundamental Physics. Physics Division recently restructured, yielding four new groups. All of our new groups house capabilities ranging from the most fundamental discovery science to mission-relevant research. The new group P-2 is centered around one of our key competencies: the design, execution and analysis of small-scale integrated experiments to study material responses to harsh environments and extreme and high-energy density conditions, including the reanalysis of historic nuclear test data. The group operates our Weapons Neutron Research (WNR) and Lujan Center facilities and supports experiments at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and national HED and ICF facilities.
The Division underwent strategic planning in FY20, and we have laid out a series of strategic enablers that will help us implement our vision of a fully integrated, collaborative, diverse and inclusive Division where all staff members are equally valued, where collaboration and mutual support are the norm, and where communication and a sense of shared outcome enable us to make the most impactful contributions to LANL’s objectives ranging from world-class peer-reviewed science to excellence in stockpile stewardship.
What You Need
The new GL will be a member of Physics Division Leadership Team, embrace our values, execute our strategy, and promote our vision. The GL will lead the P-2 group management team in implementing our strategy to ensure the success of P-2 and all of its staff members, safely and securely and with environmental awareness. The GL will strive for operational excellence, successful mission execution, project deliverables completed on time and on budget, as well as enabling our staff members’ success. The successful candidate’s technical background and experience will be aligned with P-2 priorities and complement that of the two Deputy Group Leaders.

Experience implementing formal conduct of operations and maintenance including handling abnormal occurrences, such as incident reporting and developing and implementing corrective actions and lessons learned activities
Understanding of LANL and LANSCE operations and administrative policies and procedures
Understanding of Nevada National Security Site operations and the associated safety and security envelope
Advanced degree in a physical science or engineering field relevant to the main focus of the group; Ph.D. degree preferred.
Education: BS degree in a physical science or engineering field, coupled with at least 8 years of relevant job experience.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
