What You Will Do_
The LANSCE Weapons Physics Group (P-27) seeks a professional, efficient, reliable User Liaison to run its User Office. The group conducts research and operates the Lujan Center and Weapons Neutron Research facility at LANSCE for a broad spectrum of users, both internal and external to the Laboratory. This position requires an energetic, motivated performer who is capable of acting independently, prioritizing multiple simultaneous tasks, and quickly changing focus as needed.
Reporting to group management, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the group’s User Office, which manages the visits of some 400 users annually who conduct experiments at the two facilities operated by the group. The User Liaison works closely with the ADEPS User Office to create a professional, efficient and positive experience for our users. Duties include assisting in the organization and execution of the annual Program Advisory Committee that reviews proposals for beam time, soliciting user information, submitting badge requests for external users and FVTS requests for foreign national users, defining user training plans and transmitting these to the training office, notifying users of allocated beam time, interfacing with users to adjust schedules as needed, preparing user packages, checking in users upon their arrival, shipping user’s equipment back to their institutions, and other duties as needed to make the user visit and pleasant and productive as possible. The group’s User Office and Group Office back up one another when needed to assure smooth group and user operations.
The User Liaison will occasionally access neutron flight paths, which are radiation areas.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining excellent quality in daily operational work, as well as the fine-tuned skills of organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion of multiple projects with frequent interruptions under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
Proven competence in providing executive-level administrative assistance and office management utilizing tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with sensitive or confidential information and matters.
Demonstrated experience with solving problems, developing solutions, and innovating business practices to ensure customer satisfaction.
Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, and written) while interacting effectively with all levels of employees and managers, as well as officials from external organizations.
Record of professional behavior, dependability, availability, and punctuality.
Knowledge and understanding of Laboratory organizational structures, operations, policies, and business systems including MS Office Suite, MS Outlook, Oracle Time & Labor, Oracle on-boarding, maintaining, and reactivating non-Lab workers, FVTS, and ShipIt.
Experience managing a facility User Program office.
Experience organizing and managing visits and meetings for both internal staff and external visitors to the Laboratory.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
P-27 conducts basic and applied nuclear science research in support of national security missions. The group operates two user facilities that attract researchers from across the U.S. and around the world who come to perform experiments using state-of-the-art instruments and detectors to measure neutron-induced nuclear reactions, radiation effects in semi-conductor devices, and imaging via neutron radiography.
