What You Will Do

The Center of Excellence for Kinetic-Plasma Simulations (CEKSi) has a job opening for a postdoctoral position in computational plasma physics. Successful candidates will work with a team of computational plasma physicists spread across multiple divisions at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The research will employ a combination of applied mathematics and physics-based intuition to develop a multiscale (in time, space, and velocity) and multi-dimensional, Vlasov-Fokker-Planck algorithm for inertial confinement fusion (ICF) and high energy density (HED) applications.

  • Demonstrated record of scientific achievements

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • The position requires a Ph.D. in either plasma physics, applied mathematics, nuclear engineering, or a closely related area earned within the last five years

  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and collaborative research in computational physics

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with computational algorithm development for Vlasov and/or Botlzmann equations (preferred, if experienced in moving grid schemes in multiple dimensions as well)

  • Experience with parallel programming (MPI, openMP)

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
