Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Researcher in High Explosives and chemical kinetics Modeling in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Physics and Chemistry of Materials group (T-1) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified applicants for several postdoctoral openings. The members of the T-1 group are experts in theory and simulation of materials using a wide range of techniques.
A successful candidate will join the high explosives modeling team in T-1, where they will be expected to perform outstanding research at the intersection of theoretical chemistry and physics to model high explosives phenomena.
High explosive modeling is an inherently multi-scale problem involving chemical kinetics, reactive flow, atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, hydrodynamic simulations, and machine learning techniques.
For this research, the aim is to understand how microscopic and mesoscopic properties of materials are related to their macroscopic performance. This is a particular mystery for high explosives which are composed of energetic molecules packed together in a granular material.
The team goal is broadly aimed at understanding how varying the initial conditions of the high explosive material impact performance metrics. A successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment to address this question.
