Los Alamos National Laboratory Product Owner (System Analyst 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division supports LANL’s enterprise application and performs software application development support, database development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Site Infrastructure, Mission, and Programs Software Group (SAE-3) provides software engineering services, custom application development, and commercial off the shelf application implementations.
Working alongside some of the brightest minds, the selected candidate will support SAE-3 as a software Product Owner. This role requires collaboration with Dev Team members, as well as external collaboration with application stakeholders, and other IT professionals. The selected candidate is expected to uphold high standards of professionalism while executing their work and promote collaboration and teamwork throughout. Key responsibilities include:
Acting as a primary client and product liaison.
Developing product roadmaps.
Manage the team backlog for multiple ongoing projects.
Participate in elicitation and documentation of requirements on complex systems.
Partner with team members and stakeholders to determine priority.
Evaluating and reporting progress.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Expert level knowledge and skills in developing system requirements, specifications, and functional interfaces between system software components and the system-level design
Expert level knowledge of software design concepts, software maintenance, user documentation.
Expert level knowledge of application software development lifecycle frameworks and methodologies and their related tools and techniques, including knowledge and experience using Agile development practices
Expert level knowledge of software configuration management best practices.
Expert knowledge of the software verification and validation processes, especially software testing that ensure that the requirements specification, design, and coding of software adequately fulfill all intended functions, with a preference towards knowledge of and experience with automated testing.
Knowledge of software risk management.
Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, and network infrastructures.
Knowledge of Web-based technologies including Web page development and maintenance and Web-based tools and utilities.
Knowledge of hardware and software integration and testing.
Ability to partner with customers.
Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes.
Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of the technical team.
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
Experience with Enterprise wide reporting tools or Project Management tools, such as Jira, Confluence and SharePoint.
Experience working with Dev Teams using Scrum, in support of custom web application solutions across a diverse customer portfolio
Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
