What You Will Do
Come and join the brightest minds at the most innovative R&D facility supporting our national security! The Laboratory Directed Research and Development office (LDRD) is seeking a highly competent, motivated Professional Staff Assistant 1 (PSA 1). As the PSA 1, you will support the LDRD program annual cycle, including proposal calls and reviews, data sheets, appraisals, reports, and internal/external reviews. Particular areas of focus include tracking project budgeting and spending compliance, approving foreign travel requests for LDRD projects, managing approvals of major procurements on LDRD projects, coordinating the staffing of LDRD proposal review panels, and scheduling and supporting review panel and other meetings.
You will provide administrative support for the LDRD office, including managing the high cadence of interactions between LDRD leaders and managers Lab-wide, supporting a modest level of travel and purchases, serving as timekeeper, and supporting website updates. You will support, coordinate, or lead specific LDRD activities including meetings or workshops, reports, and special projects. You will support the implementation of program strategies via the continuous improvement of LDRD processes. You will interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, internal, external and cross-organizationally, and you will serve as a resource for staff Lab-wide regarding LDRD processes, policies, and procedures.
In this role, you will report to the LDRD Program Director and will support the program needs of LDRD. You will interact on a daily basis with the best Laboratory science, technology, and engineering; members of the LDRD team have high visibility with senior Lab managers.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to perform complex work requiring considerable judgment, high degree of initiative, independent action, and discretion.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including the ability to build effective working relationships with managers, peers, and stakeholders.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills including reports and procedural documents.
Demonstrated ability to independently conduct research, data analysis, recommend/make decisions and proactively resolve problems and issues both independently and as a team member.
Demonstrated successful experience managing complex issues and working on multiple projects with frequent interruptions and varying priorities and deadlines, while maintaining excellent quality and accuracy in daily operational work.
Demonstrated ability to improve business processes and workflow.
Demonstrated excellence in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.
Demonstrated experience in arranging and coordinating cross-organizational meetings, workshops, and conferences.
This position requires a Q access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Q-clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
Education/Experience: Positions at this level require a Bachelor’s Degree and two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough and in-depth understanding of Laboratory structure, operations, and policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience or knowledge of project management.
Experience with web management system(s).
Knowledge of and/or experience with SharePoint, Purchase Card, and/or iProcurement.
Demonstrated facility with Lab-wide systems (Oracle, Concur, FVTS).

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
